Turkey political map shifts as party control changes in 37 provinces
The political landscape established during Turkey's March 31, 2024, local elections has undergone significant changes. In 37 of the 81 provinces, the governing party of the central municipalities has changed due to judicial interventions, arrests, removals from office, the appointment of trustees, and political transfers.
Following these shifts, the AK Party now manages 29 provinces, up from the 24 it held after the elections. Conversely, the CHP, which originally held 35 provinces, now manages only six. The newly formed YENİ Party has gained control of 21 provinces following the departure of numerous mayors and members of parliament from the CHP. Additionally, the DEM Party manages four provinces, five are led by independent mayors, and six are under the administration of appointed trustees.
