Turkey proposes green passport expansion for pilots, engineers, and architects
Two legislative proposals have been submitted to the Interior Affairs Commission of the Grand National Assembly of Turkey to expand the eligibility for special stamped passports, commonly known as green passports.
The proposals, introduced by YENİ Party MPs Hasan Öztürk and Ulaş Karasu, aim to grant visa-free travel privileges to three specific professional groups to mitigate logistical and economic challenges.
Under the first proposal, airline pilots would be eligible after completing at least five years of active flight service. The justification cites that visa requirements for international training, flight tests, and aircraft deliveries cause significant time and financial losses for the aviation sector.
The second proposal seeks to extend benefits to engineers and architects who are members of the Union of Chambers of Turkish Engineers and Architects (TMMOB) and possess at least 10 years of professional seniority.
Both proposals include a common requirement that applicants must not be subject to any ongoing investigations or prosecutions under the Anti-Terror Law.
