Turkey protests demand NATO exit and closure of Kürecik and İncirlik bases

Left‑wing parties and civil society groups organized marches in İzmir and Malatya ahead of the NATO summit in Ankara, calling for Turkey to leave NATO and for the shutdown of NATO installations such as the Kürecik radar station and the İncirlik air base. The demonstrators denounced NATO as a tool of war and imperialism and demanded the release of activists detained in the lead‑up to the summit.

Speakers also criticised the Turkish government's security measures surrounding the summit, linking arrests of protesters and artists to a broader pattern of repression. They highlighted the disparity between Turkey’s 12 billion‑dollar NATO spending and the lack of adequate wages for workers, urging a reallocation of resources to education and social needs.
