World Seniors Day initiatives launched across Turkey and Cyprus

Various organizations and local governments in Turkey and Cyprus marked World Seniors Day with initiatives focused on social inclusion, health, and lifelong learning for the elderly.

In Efeler, the municipality launched the ‘Second Spring University,’ a free program for citizens aged 55 and older covering topics such as digital literacy, nutrition, and theater. In Istanbul, Türk Telekom hosted Darülaceze residents at the Atatürk Cultural Center for a concert by İncesaz as part of the Istanbul Culture Route Festival.

Government officials emphasized the importance of elderly citizens as the ‘memory of society.’ In Cyprus, the Ministry of Labour and Social Security announced plans to transform an idle facility into an Active Aging Center. Meanwhile, health authorities in Kemer highlighted the rising elderly population and the importance of lifestyle choices in achieving ‘super aging.’

Local municipalities in Bursa, Kahramanmaraş, Ankara, and Mersin also organized community events, including health screenings, musical performances, and home visits, to strengthen social bonds between generations.
