Turkey psychologists advise parents on safe Eid al-Adha explanations for children
Clinical psychologist Enise Öziç of Liv Healthy Living Center cautioned that the animal‑slaughter component of Eid al‑Adha should not be shown to children. She recommends discussing the holiday’s social and charitable aspects and, for children under 11, focusing on concrete ideas of sharing and helping the needy while keeping the ritual of sacrifice abstract.
Psychological counselor Aleyna Nazlıcan Yıldız echoed the need for age‑appropriate language, advising parents to avoid graphic details and to tailor explanations to developmental stages – concrete descriptions for ages 0‑7, more reasoning‑based talk for ages 7‑10, and abstract spiritual meanings for those over 10. Both experts stress protecting children’s emotional security while emphasizing the holiday’s values of generosity and community.
