Turkey pushes renewable power expansion, targeting 1 GW for Metgün and 126 GW total capacity

Metgün Energy announced plans to boost its installed generating capacity from about 274 MW to 1 GW by 2030. The company will achieve this through new wind, solar and hydro projects and by adding storage‑enabled hybrid plants. CEO Uğur Işık said the recent IPO provided 2.7 billion lira, with 80‑90% earmarked for fresh renewable investments. "Our priority after the IPO will be wind and solar," Işık stated.

In parallel, the Energy and Natural Resources Ministry reported that Turkey’s total electricity installed capacity exceeded 126 113 MW in June. Renewable sources supplied roughly 63% of this capacity (about 79 662 MW). Solar generation reached 27 210 MW, accounting for 21.6% of the total, while wind contributed 15 281 MW (12.1%). Together, solar and wind made up 33.7% (42 491 MW). Minister Alparslan Bayraktar highlighted the progress, saying, "We are moving confidently toward a fully independent energy Turkey."
