Turkey raises smartphone import supervision threshold to 250 dollars

The Turkish Ministry of Trade has implemented a new regulation regarding the commercial import of mobile phones. As of August 10, the supervision value threshold for smartphones has been increased by 25 percent, rising from 200 dollars to 250 dollars.

This adjustment does not set a fixed retail price for phones. Instead, it affects how customs duties and additional costs are calculated. If the declared import value of a device is below the 250-dollar threshold, taxes and legal obligations will be calculated based on the 250-dollar floor rather than the actual declared value. This change is expected to primarily impact the cost of entry-level and mid-range smartphones.

The regulation aims to prevent the under-declaration of product values and to ensure more transparent monitoring of import activities. The new rules apply strictly to commercial imports and do not affect mobile phones brought into the country by passengers or the fees associated with IMEI registration.
