Turkey reaches 65 percent domestic electricity production rate

Turkey's Minister of Energy and Natural Resources, Alparslan Bayraktar, announced that the country has reached a 65 percent domestic rate in electricity production. During a visit to Çorum, Bayraktar emphasized that achieving energy independence is a primary goal of national energy policy, noting that while electricity production is strong, the domestic rates for natural gas and oil remain at approximately 15 percent.

Bayraktar highlighted the importance of increasing electrification across all sectors, including industry, agriculture, and transportation. He also noted the growing need for energy and specific minerals to support the era of artificial intelligence. The Minister stated that Turkey aims to maximize the use of renewable sources—such as solar, wind, biomass, and geothermal—over the next 15 to 20 years.

In Çorum, Mayor Halil İbrahim Aşgın presented the municipality's progress in renewable energy. The municipality reported producing 28,931,000 kilowatt-hours of energy in 2025 through wind, solar, and biomass facilities. The local government's goal is to meet its entire energy consumption through its own renewable resources to reduce external dependency.
