Turkey reaches new renewable energy capacity record
Turkey announced that its renewable‑energy installed capacity hit a new record, exceeding the 2024 target of 6,818 MW. Energy Minister Alparslan Bayraktar said the country is now close to 42 GW of solar and wind capacity, with additional 3,800 MW allocated through YEKA auctions for 2024‑2025 and plans for offshore wind farms in the Aegean. President Recep Tayyip Erdoğan highlighted the link between energy supply security and national sovereignty, citing the recent Hürmüz Strait disruption and its impact on global oil and LNG markets. He stressed that expanding transmission networks – a €30 billion programme for 30 000 km of lines – and new interconnection projects with Georgia, Azerbaijan and Bulgaria are essential for achieving “energy‑independent Turkey” by 2035. The announcements were made at the 2025 Renewable Energy Investments Opening Ceremony in Ankara.
