Turkey and Ukraine strengthen ties as trade hits $6.6 billion

At a reception in Ankara celebrating the 35th anniversary of Ukraine's independence, Turkish Minister of Labor and Social Security Vedat Işıkhan reaffirmed Turkey's support for Ukraine's sovereignty, independence, and territorial integrity. Işıkhan emphasized that bilateral relations are built on mutual respect and trust, noting that Turkey remains committed to diplomatic efforts for a just and lasting peace in Ukraine and stability in the Black Sea region.

Economic cooperation remains a key pillar of the relationship. Işıkhan reported that bilateral trade volume reached $6.6 billion last year. He highlighted that a Free Trade Agreement, set to take effect on October 1, is expected to further strengthen commercial ties. Additionally, he noted that Turkish private sector companies are prepared to play a significant role in the reconstruction of Ukraine and that defense industry cooperation remains a cornerstone of the partnership.

The Minister also addressed the importance of the Crimean Tatars in the context of Turkey-Ukraine relations, stating that Turkey continues to support their peaceful and legitimate cause.
