Turkey real estate sector calls for reform of authorization fees

Hakan Akçam, President of the All Real Estate Consultants Association (TEDB), has called for a restructuring of real estate authorization fees in Turkey. Akçam suggested that the current fee system is inaccessible for some businesses and proposed either removing the fee or adjusting it to a more equitable level to encourage formalization.

Data from TEDB indicates that out of approximately 150,000 registered real estate consultants in Turkey, 88,572 hold a Real Estate Trade Authorization Certificate. However, roughly 61,428 consultants currently operate with tax plates and chamber registrations but lack the specific authorization certificate.

Akçam highlighted a potential revenue opportunity of approximately 2.46 billion TL, calculated based on the 40,000 TL fee applied to the 61,428 businesses that have not yet obtained the certificate. The primary goal of the proposed changes is to bring more businesses into the regulated system to strengthen oversight and industry institutionalization.
