Turkey reports regional power outages and energy infrastructure updates

Various regions in Turkey are experiencing significant changes and disruptions in their electrical infrastructure. In Mardin's Kızıltepe district, Dicle Elektrik utilized artificial intelligence and drones to detect 17 illegal transformers used for agricultural irrigation. Of these, 11 were entirely unregistered, while 6 were registered but used illegally. Some transformers were found to be mobile, mounted on tractor trailers to evade detection.

Simultaneously, widespread planned power outages have been announced across multiple provinces due to maintenance, network upgrades, and investment projects. Affected areas include Sivas, Denizli, Aydın, Muğla, Rize, Bursa, İstanbul, and İzmir. These outages vary in duration, with some in İstanbul expected to last up to nine hours.

In terms of green energy transitions, Bursa Metropolitan Municipality has begun converting its public transport fleet to electric buses. Currently, four electric buses are in service, with plans to expand the fleet to 54 vehicles by the first half of 2027. Additionally, Ankara has introduced an electric bicycle system at the Atatürk Forest Farm Natural Life Park as part of a broader initiative to promote eco-friendly micro-mobility.
