Turkey reports record rainfall and healthy crop development

According to the July 'Climate, Phenological Status and Irrigation Monitoring Statistics' bulletin from the Ministry of Agriculture and Forestry, Turkey experienced a significant increase in precipitation. July rainfall averaged 18.4 mm, representing an 18% increase over normal levels and a 92% increase compared to the same month last year.

For the 10-month water year spanning October 1, 2025, to July 31, rainfall reached its highest level in 66 years, exceeding normal levels by 30%. Additionally, irrigation dam occupancy rates reached 72.6% as of July 1, indicating strong water reserves. While July temperatures were 0.3 degrees Celsius above the 1991-2020 norm, making it the 19th warmest July in 56 years, the increased moisture has supported healthy soil conditions.

Agricultural conditions for the 2025-2026 season are reported as positive. Increased soil moisture has supported the development of cereals and field crops across all regions, including Marmara, Aegean, Mediterranean, Central Anatolia, Black Sea, Eastern Anatolia, and Southeastern Anatolia. While the risk of agricultural drought has been mitigated, authorities are monitoring potential local plant health issues caused by excessive rainfall in certain areas.
