Turkey reports record teacher appointment backlog and unveils 2026 KPSS exam fees

The Turkish Ministry of National Education disclosed that the number of teacher candidates awaiting appointment reached a historic high of 526,946 in 2024, up from 468,888 the previous year. The surge follows years of fluctuating demand, with candidates numbering 356,471 in 2019 and exceeding 430,000 during the pandemic. Preparations are under way for the 2026 Academic Entrance Exam (AGS), scheduled for 26 July, which is expected to attract about 400,000 candidates. In tandem, the Higher Education Council announced reductions in university faculty quotas to help balance supply and demand.

Separately, the 2026 Public Personnel Selection Examination (KPSS) fee schedule was released by the Student Selection and Placement Center (ÖSYM). The General Ability‑General Culture session will cost 800 TL, while the Subject Knowledge session is set at 500 TL. Application windows run from 1‑13 July (license), 29 July‑10 August (associate), and 27 August‑13 September (secondary). Exams are slated for 4 October (associate), 25 October (secondary) and later dates for the license level.
