Turkey legal updates: Multiple homicide and domestic violence cases

Several legal proceedings regarding violent crimes and domestic disputes are currently underway in Turkey.

In Ankara, the family of Buse Akgün Gök has revealed threatening messages sent by the brother of Bayram Gök, the man accused of fatally stabbing Buse in front of an elementary school during a divorce dispute. The victim's father described the attack as a ‘planned horror.’

In Samsun, a prosecutor has requested an aggravated life sentence for Hanım C., a mother accused of intentionally killing her newborn baby after giving birth alone at home and disposing of the infant in a trash container. The defendant maintains the child was stillborn.

Other recent cases include the prosecution of Yücel Günegül for the killing of his wife, Fatma Günegül, in a dispute involving allegations of infidelity, and Ahmet Güral in İzmir, who faces an aggravated life sentence for the killing of his wife, Serpil Güral, with 17 stab wounds. Additionally, a case involving the death of doctoral student Gülşah Gizem Angı during a surgery at Akdeniz University has been transferred to a high criminal court to investigate potential ‘conscious negligence.’
