Turkey residential construction firms see 127% surge in consumer complaints
Consumer complaint platform Şikayetvar reported that complaints against residential construction firms in Turkey rose sharply, increasing from 1,482 in the same period of 2025 to 3,363 in 2026 – a 127% jump. The most frequent grievances involved delayed hand‑overs, substandard or incomplete workmanship, failure to transfer title deeds, halted or unfinished building work, difficulty reaching firms, lack of refunds after contract cancellations, demands for extra fees not stipulated in contracts, unfulfilled promised features, post‑delivery defects, and unpaid compensation for delays.
Sample complaints cited contracts signed in 2022 for delivery in 2024 that remained unfinished by 2026, apartments delivered only partially with poor workmanship, refusals to return large down‑payment amounts, and extra payments of 1 million TL and 500 000 TL demanded despite not being in the original agreements. The data highlights growing consumer frustration with the housing sector.
The platform’s analysis underscores a broader trend of rising dissatisfaction among homebuyers, prompting calls for stronger consumer protection and more reliable delivery practices in the Turkish construction industry.
