Turkey Restores Historic Ottoman Buildings in Kahramanmaraş and Istanbul
The Kahramanmaraş Metropolitan Municipality has approved a 32 million TL restoration project for the early‑20th‑century Çiftaslan Konağı in Dulkadiroğlu Kayabaşı. The work will remove later concrete additions, restore original stone and wood features, and is scheduled to be completed by January 2027.
In Istanbul’s Fatih district, the municipality’s “Miras Fatih” program has completed scientific conservation of numerous Ottoman tombstones, mausoleums and related structures, documenting each stone, repairing damage, and reinstalling them in their historic locations. Mayor Mehmet Ergün Turan highlighted the restorations as essential to preserving the city’s cultural identity and heritage.
Both projects aim to safeguard Ottoman architectural and funerary heritage, making the restored sites accessible to the public and ensuring their preservation for future generations.
