Turkey retirees struggle with rising inflation and rent

Retirees in Turkey are expressing significant distress over the rising cost of living, driven by high inflation, surging rent prices, and increasing food costs. In regions such as Isparta and Muğla, pensioners report that their monthly incomes are insufficient to cover basic necessities.

In Muğla, the disparity between pension increases and rent hikes is a primary concern. For instance, while civil servant pension increases were noted at 13.52%, rent increase limits reached 31.90%, leaving many with very little after housing and utility costs. Some retirees struggle to afford even basic items like books or art, focusing solely on survival.

In Isparta, retirees have voiced frustration over the price of essential groceries, noting that items like onions, potatoes, and fruit have become prohibitively expensive. Many expressed that their pensions barely cover electricity, water, and food, with some questioning how they are expected to survive without resorting to illegal activities due to the extreme financial pressure.
