Turkey roadworks cause widespread traffic disruptions

Ongoing road maintenance and infrastructure projects across Turkey are causing significant traffic disruptions. In Istanbul, maintenance and joint renewal work on the TEM Motorway viaducts have intensified following the start of the school year. Specifically, work on the Molla Gürani Viaduct between the Çamlık and Kavacık junctions has slowed traffic on the Fatih Sultan Mehmet (FSM) Bridge and its connecting roads. While some work was paused to mitigate school-week congestion, repairs on the Ankara-bound section resumed on September 21. These delays have extended travel times on an 18-kilometer stretch from 15 minutes to approximately 150 minutes.

Nationwide, the General Directorate of Highways reports several other active construction sites. On the Ankara-Konya road, the Konya-to-Ankara direction is closed due to roadwork, with traffic diverted to the Ankara-to-Konya direction. Other notable disruptions include superstructure renewals on the Niğde-Pozantı and Sakarya-Bilecik roads, and slope support works on the Aydın-Denizli Motorway. Additionally, maintenance on electrical and electronic systems is affecting traffic flow through several tunnels on the Giresun-Keşap-Dereli route.
