Turkey rolls out 'One Midwife per Pregnant Woman' program in Kahramanmaraş and Tekirdağ

The Turkish Ministry of Health has expanded the "Her Gebeye Bir Ebe" (One Midwife per Pregnant Woman) initiative under its Normal Birth Action Plan. In Kahramanmaraş, the Coordinating Midwife program began operating across all 11 districts, offering each pregnant woman individualized guidance through phone calls, home visits, and digital support via the "Annelik Yolculuğu" mobile app.

A similar rollout is taking place in Tekirdağ, where health officials provide continuous monitoring from early pregnancy to postpartum. The service targets first‑time mothers, women in their third trimester, and high‑risk cases, delivering education on nutrition, safe medication, labour coping techniques, and postpartum care. Midwives also conduct group classes and assist with practical preparations such as birth‑bag packing and newborn care.

Both locations aim to promote normal childbirth, improve maternal and infant health outcomes, and increase awareness of safe pregnancy practices across Turkey.
