Turkey Sets July 2026 Public‑Sector Wage Increase Amid Inflation Concerns
Turkey’s public‑sector employees and retirees are awaiting a salary increase slated for July 2026. Union leader Dr. Derya Uğur of the Health‑Workers Union warned that the planned raise will not offset the loss of purchasing power, stating “Enflasyon karşısında maaşlar her geçen gün eriyor.”
Forecasts based on June inflation data suggest a total raise of about 13.9% – 15% for civil servants, including a 7% collective‑agreement component, and roughly 16.6% for SSK and Bağ‑Kurs retirees. Three scenario tables project total hikes ranging from 13.9% to 20% depending on final inflation figures. No additional “seyyanen” (extra) increase is expected in July; any further welfare‑share or seyyanen adjustment is being pushed to 2027.
Labor leader Ahmet Doğruyol of Birlik Sağlık Sen called for monthly inflation‑indexed salary updates, arguing that public‑sector wages should be adjusted every month like private‑sector contracts. He also highlighted tax‑rate disparities affecting civil servants. Meanwhile, the government has indicated no interim minimum‑wage raise is planned for July.
The eventual raise will be announced on 3 July 2026 after the release of June’s official inflation numbers.
