Turkey faces widespread planned electricity outages

Multiple regions in Turkey are facing widespread planned electricity outages due to scheduled maintenance, infrastructure upgrades, and network improvement works.

In Istanbul, BEDAŞ has announced significant power interruptions affecting 22 districts on the European side. These outages, driven by network renewal and maintenance, are expected to last up to 9 hours in certain areas including Avcılar, Başakşehir, Beşiktaş, and Eyüpsultan.

In İzmir, GDZ Elektrik reported outages across 12 districts, including Aliağa, Bergama, Bornova, and Menemen, due to tree trimming, capacity increases, and network maintenance. Some areas may experience cuts lasting up to 8 hours.

Other regions also report scheduled interruptions. Nevşehir is experiencing outages in the Avanos district and surrounding villages for high-voltage work. Osmaniye is seeing multi-day outages through August 12 for network improvements. Additionally, Mersin (Erdemli) and Bursa (multiple districts including Gemlik and İnegöl) have scheduled maintenance programs.

On a national scale, peak electricity consumption has been noted at 15:00, reaching 52,970 MWh, driven by summer heat and industrial demand, necessitating careful load management by grid operators.
