Turkey seeks investment to expand boron use in agriculture
Turkey is working to increase the use of its boron reserves in high-value-added products, specifically targeting the agricultural sector. Holding 73% of the world's boron reserves and producing 48% of the global supply, the country aims to move beyond exporting raw materials to strengthen domestic production in technology-intensive applications.
In 2024, Turkey sold 2.5 million tons of boron products, generating 1.322 billion dollars in revenue. According to the Ministry of Energy and Natural Resources, strategic goals include expanding boron use in glass, ceramics, metallurgy, energy, defense, and agriculture.
A recent investment event in Istanbul brought together international businesspeople and investors to discuss expanding boron-based agricultural products. Harun Gündoğan, chairman of a company producing boron-based fertilizers, stated that these products are already being used in nine different countries, including regions such as the Americas, Canada, Moldova, Azerbaijan, and Kazakhstan.
