Turkey seizes 2,000-year-old Zeus marble sculpture

Turkish authorities in the Konak district have confiscated a 2,000-year-old marble sculpture depicting the Greek god Zeus. Preliminary dating suggests the artifact originates from the Roman period.

The seizure resulted in the arrest of three individuals found in possession of the piece. The sculpture has been identified as a protected cultural asset under Turkish law and has been placed in official custody for further expert analysis.

While the artifact was successfully recovered, investigators are still working to determine its exact site of origin, the intended final destination, the original configuration of the complete work, and the specific smuggling route used by the traffickers. The operation is part of a broader national effort to combat the illegal trafficking of historical relics.
