Turkey selects TRT co‑production 'Kesilmiş Bir Ağaç Gibi' as Oscar entry

The Turkish film "Kesilmiş Bir Ağaç Gibi", a TRT co‑production directed by Tunç Davut, has been chosen as Turkey’s official submission for the Best International Feature Film category at the 99th Academy Awards, to be held in March 2027.

The drama, which follows 70‑year‑old retired engineer Refik and the sudden disappearance of his Syrian caretaker’s children, premiered at the 62nd Antalya Film Festival in October 2025 and later won the Best Editing award at the 13th Boğaziçi Film Festival in November 2025, before screening at the 36th Ankara Film Festival.

The Academy’s deadline for submissions is 30 September 2026; a shortlist of 15 films will be announced on 15 December 2026, final nominees on 21 January 2027, and the awards ceremony is scheduled for 14 March 2027.
