Turkey sets August 15 date for 'terror‑free' framework law

The Turkish parliament is preparing a "Çerçeve Kanunu" (framework law) as part of the "Terörsüz Türkiye" (terror‑free Turkey) initiative, aiming to symbolically mark the end of the PKK by enacting the law on August 15, the anniversary of the PKK’s first armed attack in 1984.

The draft, expected to be submitted to the parliamentary speaker on July 27‑28, will be examined by the 51‑member National Solidarity, Brotherhood and Democracy Commission, with 49 members already approving the report. The assembly will stay in session through mid‑August, and security bureaus are seeking confirmation that the PKK has laid down arms. Major parties—including the MHP, AKP, CHP and İYİ Party—are engaged in behind‑the‑scenes negotiations, though some opposition figures such as İYİ Party leader Müsavat Dervişoğlu have voiced objections.
