Turkey sets September 28 for new dried fig export season

The export season for the 2026 Turkish dried fig crop is scheduled to begin on Monday, September 28, 2026. Yusuf Gabay, President of the Aegean Dried Fruit and Products Exporters' Association, stated that efforts are underway to enhance quality and food safety ahead of the new season.

To prevent aflatoxin contamination, portable UV lamps are being distributed to producers in coordination with the Aydın and İzmir Provincial Directorates of Agriculture and Forestry. Additionally, drying racks and informational brochures have been provided to ensure healthy harvesting and drying processes.

During the 2025/26 season, Turkey exported 55,000 tons of dried figs, generating $343 million in revenue. Gabay expects total revenue to exceed $350 million by the end of the season and has set a target to export over 60,000 tons in the 2026-27 season.

Market analysis shows the European Union remains the leading buyer with a 32% share (17,775 tons). The United States is a major market, accounting for $58 million in exports. Notably, exports to Far East countries like India, China, and Japan have grown by 29%, increasing their market share from 13% to 16%. The association aims to increase the Far East market share to 25%.
