Turkey stock market fund manipulation scandal under investigation
Turkey is facing significant scrutiny following a massive stock market and fund manipulation scandal involving the Tera and Pusula funds. Data indicates that between September 1 and September 16, 2026, approximately 440 individuals conducted transactions totaling over 401 billion lira.
Critics and journalists have characterized the event not merely as a fund crisis, but as an organized robbery, questioning why regulatory bodies such as the Capital Markets Board (SPK) and domestic and foreign audit firms failed to intervene or prevent the suspicious activity. There are growing calls for a thorough investigation into the oversight and supervision systems of the stock exchange.
The State Supervisory Council (DDK) is expected to prepare a report to identify procedural failures and assign responsibility. Meanwhile, political tensions have risen as the Zafer Party criticized the rejection of a parliamentary research motion regarding the scandal, which was voted down by the People's Alliance (AKP and MHP).
