Turkey Survey Finds Nearly Half of Population Can’t Afford a Vacation

A June 2026 Areda Survey of 2,400 Turkish adults revealed that 45.9% of respondents want to travel but cannot afford it, while only 30.3% say they will take a holiday this summer. Economic constraints are cited as the main barrier, with 17.7% planning to visit family or hometowns instead and 6.1% foregoing travel due to work.

The inability to afford a vacation is more pronounced among women (50.3% versus 41.1% of men), people over 55 (50.4% unable to travel), and those with lower education levels (53.8% of primary‑school‑educated respondents cite lack of money, compared with 40.8% of university‑educated respondents). Younger adults (18‑34) show the highest likelihood of traveling (35.4% plan a trip), while higher education correlates with a greater chance of vacationing (41.8% of those with a university degree).
