Hakkari to become a mining center, says Minister Bayraktar

Turkish Energy and Natural Resources Minister Alparslan Bayraktar visited Hakkari as part of the ‘Turkey Century Meetings’ program, highlighting the region's potential for economic transformation. Bayraktar stated that Hakkari is poised to become a major center for mining, driven by its significant underground resources and young population. He noted that once the region is cleared of terrorism, it could see a development similar to the changes observed in Şırnak following oil discoveries in Gabar.

Regarding national energy strategy, Bayraktar emphasized a shift toward massive electrification. He announced goals to increase the electrification of transport, aiming for 8 to 10 million electric vehicles on Turkish roads by 2035. The Minister also discussed the upcoming 2040 New Energy Architecture, which focuses on reducing dependency on imports and achieving carbon neutrality by 2053. He noted that the government is currently reviewing the National Energy Plan and preparing a third National Energy Efficiency Action Plan for the period following 2030.
