Turkey tests SİPER-2 long-range air defense missile
Turkey has successfully conducted flight tests for the SİPER-2, a long-range air defense missile designed to bolster the nation’s ‘Steel Dome’ (Çelik Kubbe) integrated defense architecture. A key achievement during the testing was the missile’s ability to perform mid-flight retargeting, where it successfully diverted from its initial target to destroy a second, updated target upon receiving new command data.
The tests also demonstrated the system’s capability to engage sea-skimming targets flying at low altitudes, a critical feature for coastal defense. The successful demonstration included mid-course and terminal guidance capabilities, proving the missile's agility in responding to dynamic aerial threats.
The SİPER project is a collaborative effort involving major Turkish defense entities, including ASELSAN, ROKETSAN, and TÜBİTAK SAGE, supported by a network of approximately 1,000 subcontractors. This development aims to enhance Turkey’s domestic technological autonomy in multi-layered air and missile defense.
