Turkey textile sector PMI falls to 44.1 amid declining orders

Data from the Istanbul Chamber of Industry (ISO) for August 2026 indicates an accelerating contraction in the Turkish textile sector. The Textile Products PMI fell to 44.1 from 48.0 in July, signaling a decline in operating conditions.

The downturn is primarily driven by weakening demand. The new orders index dropped from 46.0 to 40.5, while the production index decreased from 48.3 to 43.3. Additionally, the employment index fell from 50.5 to 47.1, and the index for goods purchases declined to 38.8, suggesting increased caution among manufacturers.

Textile producer Baran Başboğa noted that the primary challenge is not production capacity, but rather the lack of order visibility. He emphasized that when order visibility weakens, manufacturers become more cautious across all operations, including raw material procurement, employment, and investment planning.
