Ankara prepares for NATO summit with massive security deployment and citywide traffic and service measures

Ahead of the 36th NATO State and Government Leaders Summit on 7‑8 July, Turkish authorities have mobilised roughly 56 000 police and gendarmerie officers and established extensive security zones around venues, foreign delegations, airports and transport hubs. Public‑sector employees in nine central districts were placed on administrative leave to reduce traffic, while traffic control plans close numerous streets and suspend service at the Ankaray station near the event site. Health facilities, banks and other public services were confirmed to remain fully operational, with hospitals continuing emergency and routine care. The Presidency’s Communication Centre repeatedly dismissed circulating rumours about curfews, street lockdowns, set‑up barriers and document forgeries, stating that all measures follow standard international protocols for high‑level meetings.
