Turkey tightens security for NATO summit in Ankara as Trump arrives

Turkey is preparing to host the NATO summit in Ankara on 7‑8 July, with 32 heads of state and government expected to attend, including U.S. President Donald Trump. The Turkish government has deployed about 70,000 police and gendarmerie officers, closed central streets and hotels around the venue, and barred demonstrations. More than 200 people were arrested on suspicion of links to extremist groups, including 56 alleged ISIS fighters and 35 members of the left‑wing DHKP/C. The summit will feature Turkish electric limousines made by Togg for the leaders' transport. Turkish officials say the event is a historic opportunity to showcase Turkey’s role in NATO and to strengthen trans‑Atlantic ties.

Security measures also include road closures to the airports, sealing off zones around the conference centre and foreign delegations’ hotels, and a broad crackdown on suspected extremist networks as part of the government’s priority to ensure safety during the high‑profile gathering.
