Turkey to hire 30,000 school security personnel in 81 provinces
The Turkish government has launched a major security initiative to strengthen safety in schools across all 81 provinces. In coordination with the Ministry of Interior, the Ministry of National Education, and the Ministry of Labour and Social Security, the program aims to employ 30,000 new security personnel before the upcoming academic year starting on September 14, 2026.
Recruitment will be conducted through İŞKUR under the Community Benefit Program (TYP). These personnel will be primarily stationed at school entrances to monitor the movement of students, parents, and visitors. They will be granted the authority to use metal detectors to search for prohibited items such as weapons. In cases of suspicious activity, staff will provide immediate information to school management and law enforcement agencies.
The initiative follows recent security concerns in Kahramanmaraş and Şanlıurfa. To supplement these physical measures, the Ministry of National Education is also working on an AI-supported early warning system and integrating school camera systems with the City Security Management System (KGYS).
Security vetting for candidates will be managed by the Ministry of Interior, while suitability interviews for school environments will be conducted by the Ministry of National Education. The distribution of staff will be determined by local governorships based on factors including student numbers, regional security needs, and school facilities.
