Turkey to deploy AI system to combat illegal betting

Turkey is preparing to launch an artificial intelligence-supported ‘Illegal Betting Scanning and Detection System’ to combat unauthorized gambling and betting platforms. During a coordination meeting led by Vice President Cevdet Yılmaz, officials addressed the difficulty of tracking illegal sites that rapidly change their domain names and technical infrastructures to evade authorities.

The new AI-driven system aims to identify new illegal platforms almost instantly. Beyond just detecting websites, the initiative seeks to track digital footprints, including individual users playing on these platforms and the bank accounts used for money transfers, through inter-agency data sharing.

Additionally, the strategy includes measures to reduce the appeal of legal gambling sites. This may involve modifying the visual design and color schemes of legal platforms to make them less enticing to users, as well as displaying public service announcements such as ‘Don’t gamble with your life’ on various sites.
