Turkey to implement new average speed control systems by 2027
Turkey is transitioning from point-based radar inspections to an average speed control system to enhance traffic safety. Under a plan set for 2027, 44 new Average Speed Violation Detection Systems will be deployed. These systems will electronically record vehicle entry and exit times on specific routes, calculating average speed based on the distance traveled and time elapsed. This measure aims to prevent drivers from slowing down only at radar points and then accelerating again.
The program targets a massive scale of enforcement, aiming to inspect 115 million vehicles and drivers throughout 2027. This includes 60 million vehicles within the jurisdiction of the Gendarmerie and 55 million within the scope of the Police Department.
In Bursa, the Provincial Police Department has already identified specific routes utilizing Electronic Inspection Systems (EDS) for average speed detection. These include the D200/05 highway between Akçalar and the Karacabey Industrial Junction, the stretch between Hacivat Bridge and İnegöl Mobiliyum AVM, and the Kütahya-Bursa highway between Harmancık and Tavşanlı.
