Turkey to implement School Food Logo in canteens
Turkey is launching the ‘School Food Logo’ initiative in school canteens, cafeterias, and buffets starting with the new academic year. Developed through a collaboration between the Ministry of Agriculture and Forestry, the Ministry of National Education, and the Ministry of Health, and supported by the Turkish Kidney Foundation, the program aims to provide students with easier access to healthier food options.
Under the new system, packaged foods will display a specific logo if they meet nutritional criteria established by the Ministry of Health, specifically regarding sugar, fat, and salt content. In the first phase of implementation, 675 products have qualified to receive the ‘School Food Logo’.
The initiative also includes the promotion of a ‘Reliable Food’ mobile application, designed to allow consumers to participate more effectively in food inspections and access information regarding food safety and public announcements.
