Turkey to launch domestic lunar rover by early 2027
Turkey plans to launch a domestically developed lunar rover in the early months of 2027. Industry and Technology Minister Mehmet Fatih Kacır announced that the mission will utilize a locally designed hybrid propulsion system, which combines solid and liquid propellants to allow for adjustable thrust and operational control.
The project is being coordinated by the Turkish Space Agency (TUA) with active participation from strategic entities including ROKETSAN, TÜBİTAK SAGE, and DeltaV. All necessary tests for the hybrid engine have reportedly been successfully completed.
To support independent access to space and reduce launch costs, Turkey is also working to establish a spaceport in Somalia to take advantage of the Earth's rotation near the equator. Additionally, a space technopark is being planned at Middle East Technical University (METU) to serve as a research hub for the sector.
