Turkey targets medical tech autonomy and transit fare limits
Vice President Cevdet Yılmaz announced strategic priorities for Turkey's health and transportation sectors. During the opening of the DESU Medikal production facility in Gölbaşı, Yılmaz emphasized the goal of increasing domestic production in high-technology pharmaceuticals and medical devices to ensure supply security and reduce foreign dependency.
Yılmaz noted that Turkey aims to leverage its success in the defense industry to drive a revolution in health technology, focusing on biotechnology, artificial intelligence, and digital transformation. He highlighted that the country's strong health infrastructure already attracts millions of international patients, generating significant foreign exchange.
In a separate economic move, Yılmaz signaled a new regulatory approach to curb inflation by limiting public transportation fare hikes. He stated that local government increases in transit costs that exceed inflation rates hinder the disinflation process. The proposed regulation would aim to align municipal transport decisions with central inflation targets to protect the purchasing power of citizens.
