Turkey to present zero waste initiatives at COP31

Turkey plans to present its environmental and zero waste practices to the international community at COP31. Samed Ağırbaş, President of the Zero Waste Foundation and COP31 High-Level Climate Champion, emphasized that Turkey is facing water stress and highlighted the necessity of establishing long-term environmental policies that integrate industrial and transportation sectors with climate goals.

In Samsun, local initiatives are also progressing. Samsun Metropolitan Municipality Mayor Halit Doğan reported that the municipality's electricity needs are being met through a solar power plant in the Ladik district.

Additionally, the Zero Waste Project, under the auspices of Emine Erdoğan, has designated September as the month for “Zero Waste in Schools.” The initiative includes educational programs, the creation of zero waste corners in schools, and the distribution of instructional materials to encourage students and parents to practice conscious consumption, reduce single-use plastics, and properly sort waste.
