Turkey to Prioritize Heirs in Inheritance Property Auctions
New Turkish legal reforms aim to speed up court procedures and make the sale of inherited real‑estate more orderly. Under the draft rules, the first auction of a property passed to multiple heirs will be limited to those heirs only, giving them the initial right to bid. If no heir makes an offer, the sale moves to a second stage where the auction is opened to the general public.
The reforms also introduce a mandatory cash guarantee of 10 % of the property's assessed value for anyone wishing to participate in the auction, a measure intended to curb fraud and speculative bidding. By restructuring the auction process, lawmakers hope to reduce inheritance disputes, accelerate the disposal of jointly‑owned assets, and increase transparency in the real‑estate market.
