Turkey lifts gasoline and diesel prices by up to 1.10 TL per litre

On 17 July 2026 Turkey implemented a midnight "double" increase in fuel prices. The litre price of gasoline (benzin) rose by 1.10 TL and diesel (motorin) by 3.10 TL. In Istanbul the new prices are 65.65 TL for gasoline and 73.08 TL for diesel; in Ankara 66.60 TL and 74.19 TL; in Izmir 66.90 TL and 74.47 TL. The hike follows a surge in global oil prices linked to renewed US‑Iran tensions and reduced tanker traffic through the Strait of Hormuz, which pushed Brent crude up by about 1 %. The tax regime splits the increase, with 50 % covered by the special consumption tax (ÖTV) and the remainder passed directly to consumers. Analysts warn the higher costs will pressure transport and logistics sectors.

The price adjustment reflects both currency fluctuations and the broader geopolitical risk premium on oil, underscoring the sensitivity of Turkey’s fuel market to external developments.
