Turkey’s Transport and Infrastructure Ministry signed a 20‑year concession with the consortium TURKA to run vehicle‑inspection services from 2027‑2047. The agreement was signed in Ankara and gives TURKA the right to operate the nationwide network, which will be expanded to 352 stations – 249 fixed and 103 mobile – including eight 8‑channel facilities in major cities. The concession is valued at about $2.2 billion; an upfront payment of $1.72 billion was transferred to the Treasury and roughly $500 million will be spent on new stations and technology. About $3 billion in total investment will modernise the system with suspension‑test devices, electronic dimension‑measurement systems, automatic licence‑plate‑recognition and, later, on‑board diagnostics (OBD). Around 65 % of the concession’s revenue will be returned to the state. The new regime also eliminates credit‑card commissions on inspection payments, a long‑standing complaint from citizens. Over the past two decades more than 210 million vehicle inspections have been performed, including about 50 million repeat checks.
