COP31 preparations advance with Koç Holding as Global Business Partner
Preparations are underway for the 31st UN Climate Change Conference (COP31), to be hosted in Antalya, Turkey, from November 9 to 20. Murat Kurum, the COP31 President and Minister of Environment, Urbanization and Climate Change, emphasized that the summit will serve as an ‘Implementation COP,’ focusing on turning climate commitments into concrete actions in industry and cities.
Koç Holding has officially become a ‘Global Business Partner’ for the summit, marking the company’s 100th anniversary. Ali Koç, Vice Chairman of Koç Holding, met with Minister Kurum to discuss the group’s contributions regarding sustainability, technology, and innovation. This partnership follows other strategic roles filled by entities such as the International Energy Agency and Garanti BBVA.
Additionally, Turkey plans to use the summit to showcase its domestic Deposit Return System (DOA). The digital and traceable model, part of the Zero Waste vision, aims to recycle approximately 20 billion beverage containers annually, potentially contributing $1 billion to the national economy. Deposit return machines will be placed at high-traffic areas during the summit to allow international participants to experience the system firsthand.
