Turkey to tender Eastern Turkey Middle Corridor railway project

Turkish Minister of Transport and Infrastructure Abdulkadir Uraloğlu announced that the tender process for the Eastern Turkey Middle Corridor Railway Development (ETMIC) project is moving forward. The project aims to modernize the Divriği-Kars-Georgia border railway line through infrastructure and superstructure rehabilitation, electrification, and signaling.

The project is divided into four distinct sections: Divriği-Erzincan, Erzincan-Erzurum, Erzurum-Kars, and Kars to the Georgia border. Tenders for the first three stages are scheduled for December 22. The final section, extending from Kars to the Georgian border, will involve the construction of a second line for the Baku-Tbilisi-Kars (BTK) route, which was recently tendered with financing from the Islamic Development Bank.

Financing for the ETMIC project will be provided jointly by the World Bank, the Asian Infrastructure Investment Bank, and the Islamic Development Bank. The construction works, which will follow the international FIDIC Yellow Book model, are expected to be completed within four years.
