Turkey to unveil National Energy 2040 program on November 5
Turkey is set to announce its National Energy 2040 program on November 5. Energy and Natural Resources Minister Alparslan Bayraktar stated that the program aims to establish a new energy architecture to reduce foreign dependency and meet rising demand.
The 2040 vision focuses on five key policy areas: renewable energy, energy efficiency, nuclear energy, oil and natural gas, and minerals. A central component of this strategy is electrification across industry, transport, agriculture, and buildings. Projections suggest per capita electricity consumption could double by 2040, with a significant shift toward electric and hybrid vehicles in the transport sector.
In a related regulatory development, the 2027 investment and financing program for State Economic Enterprises (SEEs) has been published. The program maintains a focus on maximizing production from domestic and renewable sources while emphasizing energy management to reduce costs. Under this framework, the Ministry of Treasury and Finance will communicate 2027 targets to public enterprises by November 1, 2026, with budget preparations to be completed by the end of that year.
