Turkey tops Montenegro's foreign direct investment outflow at €26 million in early 2026

According to the Central Bank of Montenegro, Turkey was the leading destination for foreign direct investment (FDI) outflows from Montenegro in the first four months of 2026, totaling €26.03 million. The Turkish Business Association in Montenegro (TurkCham) explained that the majority of the flow, €21.75 million, represents inter‑company capital returns, while €3.65 million relates to the sale of real estate in Montenegro. TurkCham stressed that “these data do not represent a withdrawal of investors from the Montenegrin market nor a reduction of investment interest.”

The report also listed Serbia (€22.69 million), the United Arab Emirates (€17.35 million), the Netherlands (€14.44 million), Bosnia and Herzegovina (€9.43 million) and Croatia (€8.08 million) as other major recipients. No outflow was recorded for Montenegrin residents investing in Turkish banks or buying Turkish property. Both the central bank and TurkCham said the figures reflect standard statistical categories of capital movements rather than a decline in economic relations between the two countries.
