Turkey tourism sector sees 168% rise in hotel complaints
Consumer complaints within the Turkish tourism sector saw a significant surge during the peak summer month of July. According to data from the solution platform Şikayetvar, complaints in the hotel and holiday resort category rose by 168%, jumping from 560 in June to 1,500 in July.
Other sectors of the holiday industry also experienced notable increases. Complaints regarding chain hotels rose by 109%, while hotel marketing websites saw a 92% increase. Villa and house marketing sites reported a 90% rise, and complaints against tour operators and holiday marketing companies increased by 50%. Overall, the total volume of complaints across these five categories grew by approximately 94% in one month.
Primary grievances reported by consumers include hygiene and cleanliness issues, such as poorly cleaned rooms, substandard linens, and concerns regarding pool and common area maintenance. Additionally, food quality and variety—particularly in ‘all-inclusive’ facilities—were frequent points of dissatisfaction.
