London bus strikes resume as Turkish traffic violations rise

In London, over 1,500 Arriva North London bus drivers have resumed industrial action after rejecting a deal regarding working conditions. Represented by the Unite union, drivers are protesting inadequate cooling systems in vehicle cabs, which they claim can reach temperatures exceeding 40°C during heatwaves, posing risks of heat exhaustion and dehydration. The strikes are expected to affect approximately 43 bus routes across North London and Essex through October.

In Turkey, data from the Ministry of Interior reveals that honorary traffic inspectors recorded 487,270 traffic violations between January and July 2026. The most frequent violation was the use of mobile phones while driving, accounting for 76,371 reports, followed by red light violations (55,407) and dangerous lane changes (51,150). Istanbul recorded the highest number of violation reports, totaling 118,243.

Regional traffic enforcement in Bandırma saw an 8% increase in processed vehicles compared to the previous year, totaling 20,174 vehicles. Similarly, in Ordu, police inspected over 16,000 vehicles in a single week, resulting in 3,240 citations for various infractions, with speeding being the most common offense.
